D&T Presents: Carl Walsh
On Friday, October 20, Dungeons & Toast will welcome Carl Walsh, a distinguished finalist at the 2009 Toastmasters World Championship of Speaking and a dedicated member of the ACTS 416 and Online Presenters Toastmasters clubs. Carl will share insights on how his extensive background in professional theater has significantly enriched his business career.
The theme for this meeting will transport us to the high seas, as Dungeons & Toast playfully commemorates “Talk Like a Pirate” day. We hope you will don your eyepatch and your best peg leg and join us for what promises to be a soirée fit for a swashbuckler.
Same Prompt, Different Story
Dr. Michael has given the AI (Artificial Intellegence) the exact same prompt for a Solo adventure as he did in “The Enchanted Grove”
https://dungeonsandtoast.com/story/the-enchanted-groves-conundrum/
in an attempt to see how creative and varied Chat-GPT’s response would be. The results were amazingly different. While “The Enchanted Grove” was a simple solo adventure, this story “Shadow of the Whispering Grove”
https://dungeonsandtoast.com/story/the-shadow-of-the-whispering-grove/ is a cooperative story, in which the AI sometimes speaks and makes decisions for him. Also of note is that the AI generated such rich descriptions that it essentially did all of the work to generate the illustrations, itself.
Do we need humans, even as GM’s?
In his latest Artificial Intellegence (AI) experiment, Dr. Michael asks the AI to serve as a Game Master for a solo adventure. The result is an original game where Harvey has to face evil, understand, and conquer it. Is he up to the challange?
Is the AI up the task? We will find out in “The Enchanted Grove’s Conundrum” https://dungeonsandtoast.com/story/the-enchanted-groves-conundrum
Justice for the Wolves
Evil will rise, but so do the forces of good. Who will triumph? When the Big Bad Wolf and his gang prepare for even more terror on the poor pigs, will the pigs have learned enough to defend themselves? Find out in the latest Episode of Dr. Michael’s experiment in AI generated storytelling. https://dungeonsandtoast.com/story/the-wolf-pack-meets-its-match/
Custom Background Announcement
Hello all! I would like to announce a service that has opened up for my term as VPPR. Starting today, if you have a speech that you would like a custom background for, I can make you a background based on your creative vision. Simply fill out a custom background request!
Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance; any later and I’m unsure if I can get to your background. I can’t wait to see what ideas all of you have, and here’s to some fun collaborations to bring your speeches to life!

Two Tone’s Story
This week (9/8) Dr. Michael gave the story of Two Tone a Pint-Sized Hero. The story was the first part of his “blog” on AI assisted writing and gaming. The AI version of the story is now available at Two Tone – A Pint-Sized Hero.
Dr. Michael will also be hosting a discussion of the experiment in Discord in the #blog channel on Discord. People are invited to offer comments (pro and con, this is about all of us learning what does and does not work for each of us), suggestions, and even requests (requests may include stories involving your own characters or non-player characters, alone or in conjunction with others).
The plan is to release two stories Saturday and Wednesday for four weeks.

Using your Karats
Fellow Harengon players…you’ve done the work, and now you have some Karats to spend. But what should you do with that currency that is almost as valuable as real carrots?
They’re worth 10g each, so even with just the 50 karats you started with, that gives you 500g to spend on expensive mundane items or even magic items. If only the core books listed the costs of magic items, you could go on a shopping spree.
Now you can. The GMs have agreed on the following website as “definitive enough” for the Harengon campaign: https://www.kassoon.com/dnd/5e/magic-item-prices/
This site lists most items, and you are free to pick from the list, such as you can afford, within the limits of this being a group game, and the club wanting to keep things reasonable. (In other words, the answer to most questions is “yes” but if you find a +5 vorpal sword for 780g or 78 karats, check with us first.)
Also, if you find an item that isn’t on the list, contact Greg, and the GMs will confirm it and price it for you.
And of course, there will be a wide range of wonderful Officer Items for your perusal, coming soon!
Enjoy!
