Riders Between Worlds

Riders Between Worlds leads this year’s campaign into the old, whispering places of the Moonshae Isles, where the mists do not always part for the living, and the roads sometimes remember older destinations than the ones marked on mortal maps. On Gwynneth, beneath silvered skies and among the long memories of stone, forest, and sea, riders vanish into moonlit crossings and horses shy from things no human eye can see.

Tall Tales Results and a District Election

Dungeons & Toast was happy to have two members competing at the District 100 Tall Tales speech contest this year: Andrew B and Loni H.

Andrew’s haunting speech about a late Ama and her widower — entitled “The Sea Giveth and Taketh Away” — placed second:

And Loni’s energetic tale about a circus seamstress and her commitment to her craft — entitled “The Price of Silk” — placed third:

In unrelated but also exciting news, Dungeons & Toast is happy to announce the recent election of new member Angel L to the position of Club Growth Director for District 100! Angel’s commitment to the Toastmasters community and proven leadership skills made them the ideal candidate for this role, and we all look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on the District in the coming year.

D&T Presents: A Visit with a Stranger

Performed live during our St. Patrick’s Day celebration, “A Visit with a Stranger” features member Greg S expressing appreciation to the listener on their upkeep of his former home and their decision to maintain seating arrangements in “their proper place.” An in-character look at a mischief spirit from Irish folklore — the Pooka — and its modern (and not so modern) analogs. Watch till the end for a fun twist.

A St. Patrick’s Day Toast

St. Patrick’s Day is a time for celebration and revelry, and what better way to mark the occasion than with a hearty Irish toast? President Andrew has written a fantastic St. Patrick’s Day toast that perfectly captures the spirit of the holiday.

The toast begins with a nod to Ireland’s storied history and culture. “To the land that gave us poets, warriors, and kings,” it declares, acknowledging the rich heritage of the Emerald Isle. But this is no somber ode to the past. The toast quickly shifts to a more lighthearted tone, calling out the joys of drinking and revelry. “To the pubs that keep us warm, the beers that keep us full, and the whiskey that keeps us dancing,” it proclaims.

Of course, no St. Patrick’s Day toast would be complete without a nod to the man of the hour himself. “To Saint Patrick, who brought us faith, hope, and a damn good reason to drink,” the toast declares.

But perhaps the best part of this particular toast is its inclusivity. Rather than limiting its focus to one specific group or tradition, it welcomes all who seek to join in the celebration. “To those who are Irish, those who wish they were, and those who are just here for the party,” it declares.

So raise a glass, give a cheer, and let the good times roll (20s). Sláinte!

Dungeons & Toast Verbal Joust Champions!

The beneficent lords and ladies of our realm have decreed that we hold annual verbal jousts (District 100 Speech Contests). Fortune shone down on our guild members as they competed in a few of the verbal jousts this past Saturday. On a starless night and with the moon and the ocean as his background, clad all in black, Andrew B. shined bright as he won the Area S4 Tall Tales Speech Contest! Loni H., one of our verbal joust guild champions this Toastmasters year, clad in seamstresses clothes with a fantasy tailor’s shop background that changed to match her story as it progressed, was a cut above the rest and won the Area G4 Tall Tales Speech Contest! Shukun W. triumphed in the Area G4 International Speech Contest, and showed us why we should take the leap into the unknown.

Congratulations, verbal joust champions! Andrew, Loni, and Shukun will all move onto the next round of the verbal joust competitions and compete at the Division level, which will be held on Saturday, March 25.

Special guild member shout-outs to the following guild members for their service and leadership at the district level and for their help at the speech contests: Michael A. for his service as the 2022-2023 District 100 Chief Judge, Cliff C. for his service as the 2022-2023 District 100 Division L Director.

Shout outs as well go to Hovey Y., Beth G., and Andrew B. for their help at the verbal jousts and to David E. and Michael C. for their attendance at the verbal jousts to support Andrew, Loni, and Shukun.

Please join us at the District 100 Divisions G and Divisions R and S Speech Contests on March 25 to support Andrew, Loni, and Shukun!
