Coinciding with the Toastmasters year, Dungeons & Toast runs a round-robin tabletop roleplaying game campaign. Each member is encouraged to create a roleplay character that serves as their alternate persona throughout the year and that grows stronger the more active they are within the guild (experience points are granted for delivering speeches, for example, while in-game currency is earned by dressing in costume). With several active GMs and one overarching Campaign Master serving as coordinator, it’s a truly collaborative experience!
Campaign Description
2023-2024 is known as the Year of the Harengon, wherein members of the Dungeons & Toast guild must band together to defeat an evil necromancer and save the Harengon people in a tabletop RPG campaign entitled Warrens of the Harengon. Along the way, there will be opportunities to improve your skills, perform heroic feats, and develop friendships with those numbered among your companions.
This year’s campaign has an official campaign master, former Quest Master and VPE-extraordinaire Greg!
One notable change from our previous TTRPG campaign is the limitation of character race to one of 18 different animal races outlined in the Warrens of Harengon World Anvil. Play as a plucky Harengon (rabbit-folk), a sly Kitsune (fox-folk), a brawny Giff (hippo-folk), or even an elusive Octothorpe (octopus-folk)!
Here’s Lucas with a video overview of the changes between last year’s campaign and this one:
Earning Experience Points (XP) and Currency (Karats)
Unlike a typical TTRPG campaign, in which experience points are awarded for in-game activities, our TTRPG campaign awards experience based on participation in various guild activities, such as meeting attendance. Sign up for meeting roles, deliver speeches, and attend guild-designated “raids” and you’ll be well on your way to improving your skills. Here is the full list of efforts that will grant XP during the Warrens of the Harengon:
In an effort to provide an opportunity to acquire currency, all Spirit Quests have been converted to award karats (a thematic currency specific to this campaign) instead of experience points. Karats can be used to purchase in-game items or redeemed for new magical items in our Magic Shop.
Earn XP to gain levels over the course of the year. To account for the change wherein Spirit Quests grant karats instead of XP, the amount of XP per level has been reduced by 50% since the Lost Lair of the Manticore campaign. Here are the updated point totals required for each level:
0 XP
30 XP
90 XP
160 XP
230 XP
300 XP
370 XP
440 XP
510 XP
580 XP
650 XP
720 XP
To help mitigate the difficulty of running RPG games with parties in which members are of significantly different level, a statistic called Guild Level is calculated using an average of all active members’ total XP and is mapped against the level progression for an individual member. For the purposes of participating in Game Night, members whose in-guild character is of a lower level than the calculated Guild Level will instead play their character at the higher Guild Level. In a roleplay sense, higher level party members provide an Aura of Advancement to their compatriots, through the supportive nature of membership in Dungeons & Toast.

Gearing Up
Even the most stalwart of adventurer benefits from magical equipment and, throughout your adventures in the Warrens of the Harengon, you’ll have the opportunity to earn Karats, the copper-colored currency specific to the Harengon. Of course, most purveyors of magical items prefer to deal in gold, so you’ll want to exchange your Karats for gold pieces via Lucinda’s Currency Exchange!
