This fine black cloth, soft as silk, is folded to handkerchief size and unfolds into a circular sheet 6 feet in diameter.
As a Magic action, unfold it and place it on or against a solid surface; it creates an extradimensional cylindrical hole 10 feet deep. The space exists on another plane and can’t create open passages. A creature inside an open hole can climb out.
As a Magic action, close the hole by taking hold of the edges and folding the cloth. Creatures and objects within remain in the extradimensional space, and the folded cloth weighs next to nothing regardless of contents.
A creature inside a closed hole can take an action to make a DC 10 Strength (Athletics) check; on a success, it forces its way out and appears within 5 feet. A closed hole holds enough air for 1 hour of breathing, divided by the number of breathing creatures inside.
Placing a Portable Hole inside an extradimensional space created by a Bag of Holding, Handy Haversack, or similar item instantly destroys both and opens a one-way gate to the Astral Plane. Creatures within 10 feet and not behind Total Cover are sucked through to random Astral locations; the gate then closes.
